Abel Tasman was a Dutch explorer. In the year 1642 he explored New Zealand and Australia, but he didn't call the two countries that, He called New Zealand, Zeeland instead, and he called Australia New Holland, weird right! He also explored Tonga and the Fijian islands.
Abel Tasman was born in 1603 he left Europe in 1642 and went on to discovered Tasmania, New Zealand, Tonga and the Fijian islands. Sadly Abel Tasman died on the 10th of October 1659 he was only aged 55.
